The following photographs show some fine examples of commercial and agricultural plant that have made an impact on the economic development of the Outer Hebrides over the years
 
PJS 439T and OJS 783T are two Bedford RLís which were part of the Roddy MacAskill (RMA) Ardhasaig, Isle of Harris, gritter fleet and both were ex-council
These two Bedford RLís were part of the John MacKay, Horgabost, Isle of Harris, gritter fleet, the one on the right OJS 785T is ex-council

This R.M.A. Foden, registration number GYP 200W is hard at work blading and gritting the Marig to Rhenagdale road in Harris

This Bedford MK 4X4, registration number A701 KUB was also part of the John MacIver gritter fleet
This Bedford MK registration number Q866 NST part of the Peels fleet has slid into the ditch on probably the islands steepest road which leads to the communications mast at Achmore, Isle of Lewis

 
These gritters were purchased by Malcolm Smith & Sons, Stornoway, in the winter of 2001-2002, and were used to grit the Stornoway area, a Bedford AWD registration number L797 HBH and two Ford Iveco Cargoís reg noís J541 FAS and H367 XST
This Leyland Daf 45 registration number N698 RJS is owned by the Western Isles Council and has a demountable body seen here being loaded at 5.00am at the Marybank salt pile by the Councilís Massey Ferguson 365 loader
This line up of Bedford MK snowploughs and gritters were used to clear snow off the runway at Stornoway Airport.     Photo: January 2002
This fine line up of Foden gritters belonged to IA & C MacIver, Stornoway; since this photo was taken they have been broken up and replaced with Volvo, Atkinson and Foden gritters
This Leyland Constructor registration number E759 UKM was used by Angus MacIver, Stornoway, to grit the West Side loop in the winter of 2003-2004 and was previously owned by John MacIver, (Peels), and was ex-Lothian Council
This fine looking Volvo FL7 registration number P410 TSU is owned by William Mackenzie, Laxay, and is fitted with a demountable Whale gritter body
This Bedford TM 6x6 registration number E944 BSK, owned by the Western Isles Council and is looking very smart after being completely refurbished by A.F. Ross and Son, Girvan, and is used for gritting in Harris.         Photo: April 2004.
