The Western Isles Transport Preservation Group (WITPG) was established in the year 2000 by a small group of transport enthusiasts who were keen to safeguard the transport heritage of the Outer Hebrides.Since then the organisation has enjoyed a growing membership, that has sponsored or arranged a number of well attended and highly commended public events, such as the recent visit to the isles of the prestigious West Coast Run.
One of the principle aims of the WITPG is to record and preserve the oral, written and photographic history of motorised transport within the islands. In tandem with this, several vehicle restoration projects are underway. We also hope to find suitable premises in the future that will allow us to better carry out this important work and improve public access to research and exhibition material.
Throughout the year, WITPG arrange regular talks, slide & video shows, workshops and visits to mainland events, such as the annual Bedford Reunion.
